Corcovado National Park is a reserve on southwest Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, in the province of Puntarenas with 424 km ². It has existed since 1975 and is managed by the National System of Conservation Areas.
Osa Peninsula has two tourism centers from which you can access the Corcovado National Park, they are “Puerto Jimenez” (the access is comfortable and agile) and “Bahia Drake” (this route takes more time).
This amazing park protects varied tropical ecosystems. It is considered one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. Its wildlife includes scarlet macaws, tapirs, jaguars, and squirrel monkeys.
It also has the largest primary forest on the American Pacific, cloud forest, mangrove swamp, pristine beaches, waterfalls, and lowland tropical rainforest.
You can find in this park interesting hiking trails follow coastal and inland routes through habitats ranging from Pacific beaches and mangrove swamps to lowland and montane rainforests.
Corcovado has wet and a dry season. The dry season is from December through April and sees the least rain throughout the year but be prepared to see some rain during your visit…don’t forget you are in the exotic rainforest and can rain any time of year.
