The Holy Week HERE

It is almost certain that this is one of the hottest seasons in our country, maybe with one or two quakes, but there is nothing to worry about.  The public labor sector normally takes the whole week for vacations and the private sector works until Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Holy Week is also a time for family gathering in our country because many families travel far to see their relatives wherever they are in the different provinces. Or simply staying home resting and watching seasonal movies.

The Holy Week in Costa Rica has strong traditions.  Among them the Catholic Church prepares the well-known "Procesiones", religious activities on the streets, some with theatrical dramatization personages and passages from the Bible.  Specific regions in the country stand out for preparing in advance dramatizations of great artistic value such as San José downtown and also San Joaquín de Flores in Heredia province, where a lot of people go to observe them.

Of course food cannot be missing, among the most famous dishes for the Holy Week you can find: the Chiverre -a strand-fruit that is cooked for several hours with "tapa de dulce", cinnamon and clove, and it ends up being a sweet preserve, traditionally served cold with ice cream or rice pudding, or using it for bread or in Chiverre empanadas (patty)… Delicious for the palate! Another product is the Itabo flower hash, and also the green papaya hash, prepared sweet grapefruit, rice with heart of palm, salmon, sardine, or special seafood of the season.

The days during the Holy Week pass by in our country in a calmer way. There is less traffic in the Great Metropolitan Area because families rest in their homes or they go to touristic places such as beaches to make a stop along the way and put their body and mind in calm and reflection.
